The Theory

The Theory are a five piece rock band hailing from the Blackpool area, playing numerous live gigs and providing this town with yet another excellent addition to the rock n roll scene. If you want to check out this band further, why not have a look at our Listen Live section and hear three great tracks: Persuasion, Siamese and Me Vs You. We're looking forward to hearing more from these guys. Cheers to Carl who put us in touch.

The Theory are:

Vocals/guitar – Tony Swallow
Guitar – Matt Taylor
Bass – Carl Shanab
Keys & bv’s – Paul Ivell
Drums – Andy Daubney

Here's what the band have to say for themselves:

Back in the early days in Blackpool amongst the sticks of crystallized sugar and beach side rides slung together with 2 inch nails, The Theory spent long hazy afternoon’s rehearsing and gigging their way into the public eye. Three years spent in the practice room and on the gig circuit has paved their way to the solid as (Blackpool) rock five piece they are today. The boys gigged solidly to raise the capital to buy their own PA and stage their own band nights, rapidly building up a cool and loyal fan base in the North of England - a fan base who remain loyal to them whilst The Theory head for the bright lights and gig venues of London. On arrival in London The Theory were practically unknown - but the boys are fast building up a strong and loyal strong hold of fans - a fan base who are seen as compulsory in helping build up The Theory to be one of the best rock bands of our time.

The (brief) story begins in Blackpool. Andy and Matt messed about with music for a while until the hands of the gods brought all the boys together in one big bang: The Theory were born (well you don’t want all that crap about dabblings in previous bands and meeting through Uncle’s girlfriend's brother’s dads...)

Playing live is the crux of The Theory’s tale. The band can often be found slogging it out in Backstreet Studios, Holloway and at Station Studios, North London, cementing their already tight performances and creating new material. The Theory are a haunting yet hard hitting rock band with two vital ingredients : Passion and belief. That passion and belief is synonymous from the way the boys perform on stage. Tony’s powerful rock vocal will strike you and leave you hanging from the rafters of the venue. Paul’s melodic piano hooks will not leave your head. Full stop. Matt’s guitar hits all the right heights of rock crescendo and Carl and Andy’s rhythm keep the whole ensemble bound solid as cement.

The songs contain universal themes and brim with emotion - rarely are there bands who create music that connect with an audience’s sentiment as much as The Theory. Stand out single Aphrodisiac for example is an instant blast of powerful emotion that will leave you soaring for days afterwards. Wasted Day merely hints at the bands true song writing potential while Stuff hits you with a 3 minute explosion of pure pop rock madness. New comer Close is shaping up to be one the bands finest moments yet. The band speak so highly of their latest works that they and all those who ‘know’ say they are well on their way to producing a highly inspiring debut album.

The Theory recently finished recording with Pat Collier at Gravity Shack Studios in South London – the results of which can be heard on limited demo run and are featured on their debut "Bite the Bullett" EP.

Expect great things and more - music is music but this is The Theory.
