Pacific

Pacific are another classic band coming to Moonlight Radio this week. Playing around the Mancester area, Pacific are well worth checking out. To hear them, go to our Listen Live section and check out three songs: Lucid Blues, History and Low. Here's what they have to say about themselves:

Pacific formed 2003 in Manchester, England by Darren Scott (vocals) and Paul Eastwood (guitar.)
Discovering a shared love of classic guitar bands, great songs and women, they began playing acoustic shows around the North West to much acclaim.
Deciding to expand the sound to a full-on rock band, they recruited rhythm section Nikk Smith (bass) and Helgi Gudbjartsson (drums,) and have begun gigging their unique and original songs around Manchester, to excellent response.

'History' and 'Low' have been well-received around the internet, on sites such as 'purevolume,' 'mp3 unsigned' and a myriad of others. Go to the promote page to see a bigger list.

New CD 'Evolver' showcases their current live set, with more uptempo crowd-pleasers like 'Guiding Light' and 'Belong To Me.' It is available from this site, Amazon, CDbaby and local record stores in the UK.

Pacific are aiming to write better and better rock and roll songs, and to explore new avenues in sound and song form. Their influences are from the last 50 years of guitar music, including Hendrix, the Stones, the Doors, Free and Led Zeppelin, the Verve, U2, and Dylan, to name a few.

Their immediate goals are to play to more and more people, expanding their following and gaining fans everywhere they can. They understand the importance that hard work plays in achieving their ultimate goals, which is to reach the premier class of rock artists, namely U2, Radiohead, Coldplay and the Rolling Stones. Halfway wouldn't be such a bad thing..

Darren

Singer, Writer, Frontman, Guitarist, Pianist, Programmer, Engineer, Producer, Remixer and Teaboy.

Perhaps too many skills and a bit of a jack, but pacific sees Darren come full circle and focusing on his oldest skills - writing, singing and playing live.

Learning to play at the age of 14, Darren was gigging at the age of 16, going through the usual gamut of school and local bands, most notably 'Maeve,' a Manchester/Baggy influenced fivepiece that tore up the Derby Hall in Bury and the Warehouse in Leeds amongst others.By the age of 21, he had bitten the dance bullet hard, discovering the power of the kick drum and five thousand people having a great time.

Releasing four records, producing music for games, video and TV and making absolutely no money whatsoever, by 2001 he began to get bored simply producing music in the studio and bought an acoustic guitar, immediately writing songs like 'Low,' 'History' and 'Cowboys and Indians.' Playing out live again was a breath of fresh air, as well as being very nervewracking, but the response was enthusiastic, so he began to wonder if he could put together a great rock and roll band.

Hooking up with Paul Eastwood, the two began writing and recording together, and trying out what seemed like a million drummers and bassists, none of which shared the same vision of great classic rock songs played and sang well, some of which didn't even share the same planet. That was to change in the summer of 2004, when Helgi Gudbjartsson came to England, immediately hitting it off with his exceptional rhythmic abilities ( he hits things well,) and his iconoclastic sense of humour.

For the future, Darren hopes pacific become a soughtafter band, and make some great albums full of classic songs.

Helgi

Helgi was born some time ago in a land far, far away. Being the only bi-lingual member of the band, he is often credited as being the brains behind the whole scheme, brilliantly letting the other members do the hard bit, (e.g. writing the songs, playing the violins, etc.)

At an early age he displayed talents towards beating things, regardless of their density, substance or acoustics. Nevertheless, his quite obvious talents were not noted until later in life as he met other youngsters with similar talents and a band was formed.

A couple of cover versions later, the desire to sail the seven seas overtook Helgi as he so bravely set foot on English soil with a sparkle of adventure in his eyes, a pair of drumsticks in his hand and his best girl by his side.

Helgi resides in glorious Harpurhey, Manchester and has no cats.
