Age
Of Chaos
When we were putting the website together, we checked out the website for Age of Chaos. When it came to putting together a write up for them, we thought that they said it best in their own words, so check out below for the history of this great band. You can find this write up at www.age-of-chaos.co.uk and don't forget to check them out in our Listen Live section where we have three tracks playing for you: Nice N Easy, Freedom (to do what you're told) and Bomber. Enjoy!!! Formed in the summer of 96, by me (Duncan) and the original drummer (Nigel), who later became 'Larz' because some one in Germany said he looked like a heavy metal drummer. Which he wasn't very impressed about. Our first practice was back in June 1996, where we done a few covers and wrote our first two songs, 'Dogshit' and 'Parliament'. Five months later... at 38 and fat, along came 'Jim' who had absolutely no experience with bands before. No-one else had come along. Three
months later we played our first gig with the bass player from the headline
band 'Dolly' standing in. After a few more gigs, and 'three' more bass players we recorded our first demo, 'Dog Shit' e.p and our first single 'Rule Britannia. Along came new bass player 'Simon' who used to play in an old band we formed, and contributed the lyrics for 'Kinky vicar' which is still played but much faster. After ten months and gigs supporting bands such as 'One way system, Red letter day, Road rage', plus many others, he leaves. June 98 was our first tour of Germany, with Norwich band 'P.M.T'. We got Kris, who had 9 days to learn 20 songs ...and get a passport. (He left after the tour to play in Portsmouth hard-core band 'Bog Monsta') Then it was back to England for a few gigs, supporting bands like 'Snap Her' and 'The Vibrators'. After that we recorded our second demo 'Human Scum' which was our last recording with Nigel on drums. Ian from 'Los Paraliticos' joins in time for some gigs in England and the first 'Punk aid' in Croydon. After that he leaves and 'Simon' a drummer from Worthing joins. Jim then quits in March 99 to persue a family life..............FOOL!!! Vaughan who I knew from work came to a practise after a night on the piss. After a few gigs, we went into the studio to record a 5 track E.P which never got released. About a year later, 'Toby' our bass player and Simon our drummer leave. Ian returns for a few months on drums, and Vaughan plays bass. We tour the Czech Republic as a 3 piece then return home to record our first album. Ian goes soon after, but plays 'Punk Aid', with 'Pete' on bass, from Pompey metal band 'Out Shined'. After trying 2 more drummers we gave up and now use a drum machine. October 2001 was our second tour of the Czech Republic. We travelled in a converted horse box, which was lived in by Mike who drove and Ams. This tour was more drunk, messy and fucked up than the last one. After playing mainly in Portsmouth since we got back, we done our first gig in my home town 'Bognor Regis' supporting local heavy metal covers band 'Raw Flowers'. 5 years since Age of Chaos was formed, we are more fucked up than before, and ready to fuck things up for another 5 years. 2002 was a very quiet year with only one gig played at the H.I.T.s festival in Morecambe, where Ian stood in on drums for us again with a months notice and after two practices. I decided in December to disband/sack (whatever the fuck you wanna call it) the band. By March a new drummer and vocalist were in for a Czech and German tour in 2003. Pete came back on bass, as Rob (from punk band Chester) couldn't get enough time off work. After a couple of months break due to other commitments, new songs were written for a new demo and album, hopefully to be released by our next planned tour in May 2004, and a return to playing England as we've only done one gig here in the last two years. In January 2004 we played our second gig in England in two and a half years with our new bass player Rob, upstairs at the garage in Highbury. One month later on good old valentines day, we played at "The Chichester" (a pub, in Chichester suprisingly) in front of around a hundred people. A new live album was released January 2004. After one more England gig in mid May we went out for a Czech tour where we played eight gigs in nine days. On 20th June we recorded a new three track demo in a scout hut in Lewis, and on the 25th it was mixed with Jez Bird at the controls. (16-10-2004) After a few more gigs, the drummer (Ant) leaves the band in the mistaken belief he might find a life.
